BQ24780S

The BQ24780S is a high-efficiency, synchronous battery charge controller IC designed for notebooks, ultrabooks, and other portable devices. It manages charging for 1- to 4-cell lithium-ion battery packs, supports hybrid power boost mode for extra system performance under high loads, and features advanced safety protections including overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit detection.

Compatibility Note:

The BQ24780S is compatible with the BQ24781 in many applications, as both are part of the same product family and share similar pinouts and SMBus addresses. However, the BQ24780S must be replaced with a chip that has the same suffix (e.g., “S”) for full compatibility in systems where this is required. In practice, BQ24780S and BQ24781 can often be interchanged, but always verify specific device requirements for your application.
